wrong person makes opening lead

Which Bidding System to Use - 2008/02/19 20:42 I have just started to play duplicate again after a 25 yr break. I was using the Standard American 12 point count system then. After playing at a club in Temple, TX. have been doing okay, won a few points and seem to communicate with other partners and my wife.

Coming back to Missouri, I just went to a bridge class thinking I could learn the current bidding system and conventions. I was surprised finding the "20, 18 and 15" count system is being taught as the accepted "yellow card" style of bidding. Is this system NOW the ACBL accepted methodology for bidding?

Being a "more mature" person, I prefer the 12 point opening concept -- maybe because I know it but need I change? My wife and I are beginning to play clubs wanting to play sectional games. I do plan to play swiss teams with other players.

So is a change needed?

Which Bidding System to Use - 2008/02/22 03:54 Thanks for the website. T'was good to learn that we're still fairly current but now we really need to work on our basic conventions.

Tuesday nite we had totally forgotten the 2 NT reply with the Jacoby Transfer getting a bottom. Our LM opponent saw our frustration and tactfully explained the bid....

Now to get my mind functioning and remembering card counting. Found my old book of "Watson's Play of the Hand" and reviewing a new book I think is called "24bridge Conventions you need to know".

Again thank you Kwai2.

Which Bidding System to Use - 2009/09/20 08:07 Basic standard American is certainly the best place to start. 12 points for an opening is generally accepted, but the rule of 20 - see http://www.pattayabridge.com/conventions/Rule20_main.htm should be used for 1st and 2nd seat openings as you get more experience. Once you have fully mastered Standard American, then move onto two-over-one, http://www.pattayabridge.com/conventions/basic2over1_main.htm gives a brief overview of this system which is an upgrade on Standard American.
