Upside Down For Count and Attitude - 2008/06/19 21:23 My wife and I have for years used high/lows for attitude only. We now play in a club with 95% of the players rated as strong A and B flighted players. (Yes, I personally feel like a sheep in a cage with hungry wolves but when I can set or even make a successful double I want to jump up and shout "Hooah!!! AIRBORNE!!!" but my wife won't let me.) One very basic area I think we need to improve upon first is to add "count" with our attitude discards before we venture on to more advanced conventions.

I want to change to the upside-down technique as I think it is better than the high-low to disclose this information. My wife has reviewed the concept and has agreed discuss with our club director about the upside-down for count and attitude before we use it.

My question is -- Am I on track trying to improve our basic system in describing defensive preferences with this method? Or, in your opinion, is there a better convention to show count and attitude?

Upside Down For Count and Attitude - 2009/09/20 06:57 I personally like to play inverted attitude (i.e. low to encourage on partner's lead. I think this is a big advantage as if you like the suit you do not want to discard a high one from it! As for count, I can see no advantage nor disadvantage in playing inverted. When discarding I play inverted attitude if my partner wants to play that but I much prefer Lavinthal - see http://www.pattayabridge.com/conventions/Lavinthal_main.htm
