re:It's up to you in fourth seat... - 2006/08/12 00:26 There are 2 serious problems with this hand:

In terms of awfully playing strength it's minimum, and in danger of being outbid if opponents hold either major.

There are serious rebid problems over a 1S repsonse - especially, if, like me, you play a weak no trump.

The first would not necessarily deter me from belligerently opening 1C (I quite fancy defending a spade partial on a club lead); however, the combination of the two leads me to join the large majority who PASS.

re:It's up to you in fourth seat... - 2006/08/13 00:09 Somebody posted about "going against the field". I think passing is a very reasonable gamble here. I really am not looking forward to partner and I trying to figure out what to do when they get to two of a major, or having an auction like 1C-1S-1NT(?)-2S.

Begin{soapbox}
I disagree with requiring six of a minor to rebid them, and with opening 1D with four diamonds and five clubs.

re:It's up to you in fourth seat... - 2006/08/13 14:51 Judging by the responses in this thread, my suggestion that passing
S x H Jxx D KJxx C AKJxx in 4th would be going against the field was wrong.
However, in real life, I would be VERY surprised if this hand was not opened at 2/3 (or more) of the tables.
