12 opposite a weak NT - 2005/12/30 08:32 with none vulnerable you hold:
A73
842

Partner opens a weak NT. What's your plan? Inviting, scientifically blasting 3NT or even passing? Does it depend on the form of scoring or the vulnerabililty? Level of the field you are playing in at MP's?

re:12 opposite a weak NT - 2005/12/31 02:40 Beware the 4333!
Pass at MPs. Think at Imps, but pass nv., & invite vul. Can't afford to miss a vul game.

re:12 opposite a weak NT - 2005/12/31 09:21 1NT is 12-14 ?
I'll consider this 12HCP hand a 11 counter due to the 4333 distribution nine losers, no intermediates no good suit & horrible fillers in my four card suit. So in this particular case I will pass with 12 but normally I just bid 3nt.

re:12 opposite a weak NT - 2006/01/01 23:26 An important point is whether we pretend pd to bid 3nt on good 13 coutners or some almost-good 13 counters, the invitational style is important, do we invite light or solid? If we invite solid then may be we should pass this hand, if we tend to invite light an invitation wouldn't be costly here.

re:12 opposite a weak NT - 2006/01/07 17:07 Mad Dog, after the way you bid at Surfers, Im apparently surprised you don't raise to
4NT quantitatively.

re:12 opposite a weak NT - 2006/01/10 16:39 You have to invite or go with this hand. I dont think that you can leave it in 1NT. If you play 11+-14, you should invtite. If you play
12-14, I say that you should blast into 3NT.

I'm quickly guessing that my partner's hand looks suddenly something like this or better:
Kxx
Qxx

Many 12 HCP hands have a better play for 3 NT than this. Even if partner's diamonds are just as bad as mine, it's better than 50-50 that opponents won't find the lead or that they will block. Turn the
DKQx into DAxx and 2NT shoulkd still be reasonable.
