Overcall or jump-overcall? - 2006/11/20 23:34 *Matchpoints*

Suppose I've a hand that qualifies for a weak jump overcall (i.e.
safe 6-card suite and at most one outside feature), but that's also strong enough for a simple overcall. Should I make the weak jump overcall or the regular overcall?

Please give any guidelines that you can, providing sample hands where necessary.

Thank you

Also, would the jump overcall be at the two level or the three level? The question as posed is virtually unanserable. If partner is a passed hand then this leans towards the weak jump overcall. If partner has not bid then do not pre-empt him. But, as I said, we need the actual hand, vulnerability and bidding.
