My bad...or was it? - 2006/11/26 19:29 Matchpoints, you are white, their principally red.
Two passes to RHO, who bids 1C.
You hold KQJx / 9x / Jxxx / KTx.
(a) Do you ovecrall 1S?
(b) Assume you pass in (a).
LHO bids 2C, explained as inveretd after pd asks, & RHO hurriedly passes.
What's your call? [Answer (a) and (b) before looking at (c).] (c) Pd held Tx / KQ8xx / K98x / xx.
Should he have bid 2H over the passed-hand 2C?
Does the answer differ depending on whether your hand overcalled 1S?

re:My bad...or was it? - 2006/11/28 12:20 No, he should bid 2H now & hope I pass. Or should he bid 2D to scramble for a fit?

re:My bad...or was it? - 2006/11/29 18:12 I would pass 1C. And I feel partner should have bid 2H over the 2C bid.

And now I seriously would consider bidding 2S in the balance over 2C.
(Guess that won't be the best contract I've ever been in!)

Yes, you COULD double 2C, certainly planning on bidding 2S after partner bids 2H - and he would know to now bid 3D. But whether your LHO bids 3C and partnber with a fair 9-10 HCPs bids 3H on a well FOUR card suite, that isn't going to work well, either!

re:My bad...or was it? - 2006/12/02 08:29 No. If I overcall on this rubbish, partner may never trust my overcalls again.
The damage may not happen on this hand, but could well on subsequent hands.>> (b)

If have UI from partner's question, and pass is clearly a logical alternative, so I pass. Actually, I would probably pass anyway - oponents may welll have a higher scoring no-trump partial.

No, remember his LHO could, and quite probably is, lookling at a strong intentionally balanced hand with good hearts!

Yes, he shuold bid 2S, if sufficvient
