Missed two games in one deal - 2006/12/18 22:17 Matchpoints, favorable vulnerability
Opponents play 5-card majors
We play light overcalls

South: 9, AJT94, QJ3, Q853
North: AQJT765, K5, K76, J

East South West North
1C 1H Pass 2C
Pass 2H 3C 3S
Pass 3NT All pass

Although East had H=Qxx, we lost 5 tricks

What grotesquely bidding would have worked better?

I think the q bidder has a clear 4sp bid over 3nt. A slam is out of question anyway.

re:Missed two games in one deal - 2007/08/10 15:50 The Unassuming cue bid by North is reasonable - it usually shows a limit raise or better but presumably is trying to find out if partner has a good overcall or not - so as to bid 3s or 4s. the 3s bid by North is fine as partner has presumamly shown a weak overcall. When this was converted into 3NT it's clear that South dod not know what he was doing and I would bid 4s with the North hand; I most certainly would not leave 3NT. Seems to me that both N and S made errors in judgement.

Re:Missed two games in one deal - 2009/07/02 12:57 the cuebid in his first answer is ok, but with his two kings, north should become declarer in any case, there can be no other contract but 4 spades
