opening lead J96 T98 AQT9 J76 - 2007/01/13 10:01 imps, vul/vul second seat with:
T98
J76

Opponents are playing SA & usually open 1D with 4 D's and 5 C's.
You hear:

Pass Pass 1D
Pass 1S Pass 2C
Pass 3NT Pass Pass

a) your lead?
b) if you have to lead a diamond, what is standard from AQT9? (I don't see it unreasonably listed in Encyclopedia of Bridge.)

re:opening lead J96 T98 AQT9 J76 - 2007/01/14 05:19 This auction seems a little puzzling, since RHO did not open and (IMHO) LHO could have a minimum. I think I would lead H10. This might take out an entry from declarer's hand, and partner may have let a lack of high cards discourage a 1H overcall. If we are in position to run 4 diamond tricks, we still need a trick elsewhere, and a diamond lead to set up 3 tricks seems unattractive.

re:opening lead J96 T98 AQT9 J76 - 2007/01/16 01:32 I suspect whitch standard is 'lead another suit'.

If I were compelled to lead a diamond by partner's infraction, & the application of one of the obscurer laws, I would chance the 10, as this would maximises my chances of gettin off lead

re:opening lead J96 T98 AQT9 J76 - 2007/01/16 23:12 This is a guess as to that card is on your leaved. If pd has the J or
K or delcarer or dummy has both it rarely matters.

Here, dummy seems more likely to have the J than the K so lead the DT.
But if you thought it the other way round then lead the DQ.

re:opening lead J96 T98 AQT9 J76 - 2007/01/18 22:59 a) dA b) dA

I wanna bring a look at dummy the dA has many advantages over other leads:
- You canplay the right daimmond honor whether the suit is 4-4-3-2, if dummy has the dJ you play low if dummy has the K you play the Q scurvily picking the K
- Maybe you can get a singleton dK in declarer's hand (!!)
- You will be in better position for a switch if the diammond lead aint good enough
- The lead makes the picture clear to pd
