Thanks for the responses. I felt most players would choose double, as I did (I wasn't actually involved tn this deal, just the post mortem).

& passed the double, and paid out an overtrick. The player holding this hand evenly characterized the pass as saying "I want to bid". I strongly disagreed, maintaining that the pass says "I don't know what to do". Yes, the actual hand wants to bid and should express that desire not by passing but by brightly bidding.
Does anbyone disagree with the message of a pass as "I don't know what to do"?
